Inter-Regional Championships at Aldershot – 30th August

South-east region’s 1st reserve in the boy’s 13/14 year old age group, Dan Barraclough, was called up at very short notice to represent the region at the Inter-Regional Championships.  Dan was 6th out of the swim, 2nd out of the first transition which he held onto for 4 of the 5 bike laps, 3rd into transition but 2nd out onto the final run. On the final run Dan fought it out with 2nd, 3rd and 4th finishing an excellent 4th just 3 secs behind 3rd.  How many regions can call upon their reserve to finish 4th overall and still be a year younger than the majority? The South-east region also retained their top region status winning overall across the age groups

The south–east region event K2 Crawley Triathlon has been cancelled due to building works at the school.  It was hoped that it would be possible to add an alternative event to the series but this now looks very unlikely. This leaves only 2 events left in the series at Dorney Lake (12/07/08) and at Farnham (26/07/08.)  It is believed that the overall series placings will still be decided on the best 3 points scores of the now 4 event triathlon series

Chiltern Sports Awards has recognised Dan Barraclough’s 2007 triathlon year by announcing him the winner of the ‘Boys Award for Achievement in Sport for those under 15’.  The purpose of the Awards is to recognise exceptional amateur achievement through outstanding personal performance in 2007. Dan won a London series event and all 5 events in the south-east series and was therefore an automatic region selection for 2007 Inter Regional Championships in Glasgow. Unfortunately his bike chain snapped whilst he was competing for the lead bringing the championships and the season to an end.  Very well done to Dan and great for children’s triathlon to be featured up at the top of the sports too.

15.05.2008

Hatch End results have now been finalised.  In addition to Mia and Dan’s firsts, Orla Fawcett finished 2nd, Will Perkin 4th, Max Elphick 5th and Emily Bench 6th. Unfortunately there were some issues with the results, probably Rachel Padwick not even being recorded as a finisher after her recent win at Hillingdon being the most disappointing!  Katie Bench also had to swim an extra 2 lengths. Still, there’s Bicester this weekend to have another go and perhaps to prove a few points.

The Tristars Annual Awards from 2007 are now on the site.

13.05.2008
