News  About Us

Following a big increase in the number of relatively local triathlon events for children, Amersham Tristars was set up in 2004 to introduce children to the sport.

We currently offer bike, run and transition training for children from approaching 8 years old to beyond.  As a club within Amersham Swimming Club swim training can take place at Amersham Swimming Club or at any other swim club that may be more geographically convenient.

Training sessions:

Bike, run and transition training takes place on Saturday mornings.  Currently 2 sessions are offered.  The first session (from 9:55 to 10:55) is aimed at those taking their first steps in combining all 3 sports into one triathlon event.  The second session (from 11:00 to 12:15) is aimed at those who have gained more triathlon experience or who are beyond the average age and ability of the first session.
Both sessions are lead by a British Triathlon qualified Coach.

Training venues:

Spring to Autumn:
Bike, run and transition training between about mid-April and mid-October takes place at either Hervines Park or King George V Park in Amersham.  As training during this period is on the grass the duration of training at these venues is dependant upon the suitability of the ground conditions.  As autumn approaches the ground conditions eventually become too heavy going, especially for the younger children.

Autumn to Spring:
Once the ground conditions start to become wet and heavy-going, training is then moved to Great Missenden station car park.

Want to have a go?
You are welcome to come along for 3 sessions to see if triathlon might be what you like.  All that will be needed is a bike (of about the right size and in good working order,) a cycle helmet (essential,) whatever you would normally run in for the time of year (preferably with shoe laces that aren’t too long) and a drink.  Please contact David Towers in advance who will be able to advise where we are currently training and which session would be the most appropriate.

British Triathlon Federation:

Amersham Tristars is affiliated to the British Triathlon Federation.  British Triathlon’s web-site is www.britishtriathlon.org.  Geographically Amersham is in British Triathlon’s South East region which has its own web-site www.southeastri.org.  The South East region includes Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, Sussex, Kent, Surrey, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.

Events:

Triathlon clubs within each region organise events for children, some of which will be included in the region’s triathlon and multisports (duathlon and aquathlon) series.  Usually the South East region’s children’s triathlon series comprises 5 events based around the region between April/May and August.  Overall positions in the series are decided based upon the competitors best 3 scores in the 5 event series.  The top 2 finishers are likely to be considered to represent the region at the Inter-Regional Championships.  Other non-series counting events also take place.
Distances for childrens events vary according to age.
